Alanya was founded in the second century BC by the pirate Diadotis Tryphon (the lecher). Under Pompeius the pirates nest was defeated and razed to the ground. I won’t bore you with the rest of its history, it was Roman for a while, then Armenian, then Seljuk and from 1471 on Ottoman.
